Woman Loses Triplet Over N4000 Medication Fee
For Temitope Sanni, the birth of a set of triplets has become more of a curse than blessing: Shortly after they were born, the babies, all boys, died one after the other. Reason being that the parents could not raise the N4,000 required of them to buy drugs.
After giving birth in a face -me- I -face -you home, and having the babies delivered by her niece.. because the babies were too fragile, they were rushed to a clinic.. but were advised at the clinic to take them to a teaching hospital.
The parents went to LASUTH, but on reaching there, one of the boys had died and when they were asked to bring N4000 to buy drugs for the remaining two boys. They couldn't afford it and before they could rush home to raise the money, the other two boys died.
The Minister of Health, Prof. C.O. Onyebuchi Chukwu had recently lamented lamented that at present, there is no mechanism for emergency care in the country.
The minister, at an interactive session with health writers in Lagos, also disclosed that there were plans to make the present voluntary NHIS mandatory for every Nigerian citizen so that through it, many poor Nigerians can get health care.
